The Legend of Kaptein & Annie
In the early 1900s, Kaptein Brandt journeyed across the rugged Lowveld trails to Lourenço Marques. There, on the harbor docks, he was introduced to authentic, fiery peri-peri oil by a seasoned Portuguese mariner.
Fascinated by its heat, he set out to create a localized recipe. His journey home took him through Hectorspruit, where he stopped at the orchard farm of Annie Brandt. She presented him with baskets of the sweetest, largest wild mangoes harvested at perfect ripeness.
Retreating to his high-altitude stone house in Kaapschehoop—shrouded in cool mountain mist—Kaptein Brandt blended Annie's slow-cooked sweet mango pulp with the fiery bird's eye chilies and secret baking spices. Today, we still use their original handwritten blueprint, hand-labeling every single bottle.
